DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \n February 21st 2024\n Meet the Borrego Springs Community Sponsor Group \n     \nHave you ever heard of the Borrego Springs Community Sponsor Group? Join us for an introduction to this group by the board chair; John Peterson. Learn how this group is formed\, how they communicate with the county\, and why they are important in building the future of our community. \nYou’ve probably heard of the Borrego Springs Community Sponsor Group but might not be sure what it does. It’s actually one of the few government-authorized citizen groups in town\, along with for example the Water District and the Board of Education. It serves as an advisory group to County officials — acting as the formal conduit between people and businesses in Borrego and the various planning authorities in San Diego County. John Peterson is the new Chair of the Sponsor Group\, and he will give us background on its roles and importance as our community prepares to plan to meet our economic and environmental challenges in the future. \nA refresher if needed: you might have heard about possible new residential development here\, and even new public buildings planned in the village core — it’s early days\, but there are possibilities of a new Senior Center\, with assisted living facilities; a new fire station with attached 24/7 clinic; and new development\, a mix of commercial and residential\, on the land between the ArtPark (behind the Borrego Art Institute) and The Mall’s east parking lot. \nThose who are starting to plan and design these new building projects would like input from the community\, from people like us who care about Borrego Springs. But we need to understand the possibilities and limitations within which this building can occur. Giving us that kind of background is the intent of “Borrego U\,” a series of talks organized by the Borrego Valley Stewardship Council with grant support from the California Department of Water Resources’ Sustainable Groundwater Management Program.
